Perseverance is an amazing quality... it's one of the 16 Habits of Mind that characterize the most productive and successful people. Perseverance is being able to "stick with it," even when the going gets tough. This week, I saw examples of perseverance all around me in 4M.... revising and editing the biographies so they sound just right, typing questions and answers on the computer, comparing the values of decimals and trying to make sense of the CML math problems. Each day, I found myself telling students repeatedly that I had noticed their perseverance and that they should be proud of their efforts. We are a hard working group in 4M and don't give up!
Posters for the Living History Museum are due on Monday. The next piece to be completed at home is the costume. This is due on Monday, November 17th. Our dress rehearsal will be on Tuesday, Nov. 18th, and then parents are invited Wednesday, Nov. 19th at 8:45 in the presentation room! I have told the students to let us all know if they needs some part of their costume, so we can help each other out. You can also email me if there is something that I can help you put together.
We read the story, Leah's Pony, this week and discussed cause and effect. In order to understand the story, we traveled back in time to learn about the Dust Bowl and the 1930's. We started by discussing how the Dust Bowl was an important time in U.S. history and the combination of time and place created a setting that had an disastrous effect on people's lives. We looked at photographs from the Dust Bowl and talked about the "mood" that the pictures created.
We are ready to harvest our seed pods and end our science unit on plants. There will be a test on the parts of the flower, the life cycle of the plant, bees and pollination next Friday. Students will bring home their plant journals to study.
Thank you to all veterans for keeping our country safe. On Monday, we will celebrate veterans in an all-school celebration. Everyone is asked to wear red, white and blue. If you are able, please send in a donation for homeless veterans on Monday.
Thank you to Mrs. Burns for helping with math games and photocopying this week!
Our trip to Chinatown is Monday, November 24th. We will leave school at 9:15 and return before 1pm. We will need 6-7 chaperones. Please write your name in the comment box below by next Tuesday if you are interested in chaperoning. If we have more than 7 people volunteer, I will draw names.
