The 4M Smartie researchers worked all week on their Wonderpalooza outlines. The old fashioned outline is still a fantastic way for students to learn to organize the most important information and keep their facts brief. They should be working on their visual displays at home. As a reminder, the main purpose of the visual displays is to help explain the topic, which means that they should be easy to see and do not need a lot of facts on them. Titles and labels are enough because the facts will come from the students during their presentation. Many students are already scheduled to present during the upcoming week. The remaining students will be scheduled to present during the week of June 8th. Visual displays are not due until the day of the presentation.
We also started our last novel of 4th grade. Joshua’s Song is historical fiction and takes place in Boston in 1919. The students will be reading, recording their thinking, and looking for new vocabulary. They will also practice “point of view” by writing journal entries from Joshua’s perspective. This novel is a favorite of mine because of the local history and familiar setting.
This Wednesday is an early release day for Foster families to stroll in the square and see posters from each class with examples of how we exercised our minds and bodies this year. Families are also invited to gather at the bathing beach from 3-5 pm. I’ll will let you know next week where our 4M poster will be hanging.
The 4th grade Physics Olympics will be held on Tuesday, June 16th. This is a full day of science- related challenges that students will complete through teamwork and creative thinking. I need at least 10 volunteers from 4M in order for the day to be successful. Please sign your name in the comment section below if you can help out on June 16th from 9:00 – 1:00. Thank you!
Thanks to Josh’s mom and sister for helping with math games today!
