There’s so much to celebrate in 4M! First, the Invention Convention was amazing! Students worked so hard on their projects and they were very proud to show off their work to everyone last week. I always love seeing their creativity and confidence as they “pitch” their products to an audience. Thank you for your efforts at home to support this project. I’m sure many of you went through the same process as real inventors with failures and re-designs. Thank you also for getting your child to the Invention Convention in the evening during a busy season. I hope everyone saw the article in the Patriot Ledger about the Invention Convention. Here is a link to the article, if you missed it. www.patriotledger.com/news/20180523/hingham-students-show-off-inventionsHarbor Media has just posted a video about the Invention Convention on their YouTube channel. This week we competed in the Battle of the Books. Students in grades 4 and 5 have been reading from a list of 12 pre-selected books since October. Then, they came together in teams to answer questions about details in the books. Our classroom teams competed first and it was wonderful to see them all come together as a team and share their knowledge of the twelve books they had collectively read. On Thursday, each classroom in grades 4 and 5 sent one team to the Big Battles and the Taco Readers from 4M won against a 5th grade team! (I couldn’t have been prouder! :)) An extra “congrats” to Audrey for reading all 12 books! There are photos of our four teams with their t-shirts on the "Gallery" tab of this website.
Last week we also spent the day with Nikki Hu, who led the students in retelling a Chinese folktale through movement. Nikki is amazing at getting kids to try something new and outside of their comfort zone. After a few short hours together, we put on a performance for the third grade. Thank you to the PTO for funding this Curriculum Enrichment activity.
And…. we don’t intend to sit around for these last few weeks of school! The events and activities continue! Here’s a quick rundown of what’s coming up…
* Monday: “Bring a Stuffed Animal to School Day.” This is a prize the class won because we reached a goal for sponsors for the Boosterthon Fun Run.
* Wednesday: We will dissect a lily to learn the parts of the flower. I could use two volunteers to help from 10 - 11 am. Please email me if you are available.
* Friday: Fun Run Thanks everyone for your donations!
* Tuesday, June 12: Physics Olympics! This is the 4th grade version of field day. We have all the stations ready to go, but need parents to run each station. This is a great day and often one that dads enjoy, too! Please email me if you can help out on Tuesday, June 12th from 9 am - 12 pm. (Rain date is Thursday, June 14th.) We need ten volunteers from 4M.
