Thank you to all the parents who came to Curriculum Night on Wednesday! It was wonderful to meet or see you again. Thank you for adding your Hopes and Dreams to our wall! Let me know if there are any other email addresses you would like me to add to our class list.
This week, we continued to discuss our independent reading choices and practiced writing short summaries that focus on the problem and solution. We also read the first story in the new Journeys anthology, which was an excerpt from the novel, Because of Winn Dixie.
In math, we reviewed adding, rounding and estimating and learned how to solve two-step number stories. Students should always look back at their work and ask themselves, “Does this answer make sense?” Thank you to Mrs. Bradl and Mrs. Golden for helping with math games this Friday. The sign up is on the Google sheet above.
Our Wisconsin Fast Plants have sprouted and are growing right before our eyes! Students recorded observations about the plant growth and drew pictures of the first “seed leaves.”
The students met with their Battle of the Books teams and selected the first books they will read and team names. Each student is asked to independently read at least two books from the twelve on the list. The competition will be in late spring. Our teams are fierce! I’m sure the 4M Smarties will be represented in the finals!
Ask a 4th Grader….
* What are seed leaves? What do they look like?
* What are some of your favorite genres to read?
* Who is on your Battle of the Books team? What book are you reading first?
* What editing symbol do you use to show incorrect spelling?
