We started the week with a very festive Halloween party! Thank you to Mrs. Barclay, Mrs. Golden, Mrs. Ryan, Mrs. Marks, and Mrs. Kenney for their help and creativity! Everyone had a yummy snack, made a bookmark and played a fun game.
Our Writer’s Workshop has been busy this week! Everyone has had amazing writing stamina! The 4M Smarties practiced writing entertaining beginnings and added dialogue, thoughts, descriptions and sounds to their main events. The final drafts will be finished next week.
Battle of the Books teams met to discuss the books they have already finished and assigned new books to read. Each student should try and read two books by April to contribute to the team competition in the spring.
Students completed the CML on Thursday. This math contest is given the first Thursday of each month, Nov. - March. The results are not part of the students’ math grade.
There will be a Unit 2 math test on Wednesday. A study guide will go home on Monday. Thanks to Mrs. Best (Abby’s mom) and Mrs. Franklin (Owen’s mom) for helping with math games today.
We read and discussed the upcoming presidential election this week. Students learned how a president is elected and the various responsibilities a president has. Everyone will come home with a scorecard to record any election results available before bedtime on Tuesday night.
Ask a Fourth Grader…
* Which step in the writing process are you working on with your "Abandoned House" story?
* What is the difference between the electoral vote and the popular vote? Which system do we use to elect a president in the U.S.?
* How is a trapezoid different from a parallelogram?
