An update is long overdue for the 4M Smarties because we have accomplished a lot in the past few weeks since returning from vacation.
The English Language Arts MCAS went smoothly and the students all felt prepared and comfortable using the Chromebooks to complete the test and type their written responses. Thank you also to the parents who sent in snacks. They really helped to keep everyone energized. The math MCAS will be on May 16 and 17 and we will also use the Chromebooks for that assessment. I will take the kids through a practice run of the math MCAS on Monday when they will be able to practice using the tools on the computer to show their work.
Everyone’s invention has been approved and students should be gathering materials to build their prototype. They will also need a tri-fold board. We are working on the written parts of the tri-fold board at school and will have them completed and sent home by Thursday, May 18th. The Invention Convention is on Wednesday, May 24th from 6-7 pm and everyone is expected to attend. It is always an amazing to see everyone’s creativity and presentation skills.
We started an Andrew Clements author study last week. Students did a “book tasting” and previewed many titles from this author and then chose the book they wanted to read. They are meeting in Literature Circle groups to discuss assigned chapters. Their conversations this week were enthusiastic and insightful. I love hearing them get excited about what they are reading!
Ask a Fourth Grader!
* Which Andrew Clements book are you reading? What is it about?
* How many fluid ounces are in a cup?
* What is happening in Old Yeller? What do you predict will happen next?
* What did you learn today from watching the health videos?
